BACKGROUND: The physical appearance of an individual plays a primary role as it influences the opinion of the viewer. For this reason, orthodontic therapy to improve perceived aesthetics is in high demand among patients. This factor, combined with the increase in the number of non-invasive facial aesthetic treatments, has led to the need to understand potential risk factors in the application of medical devices to the perioral skin in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances. The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro heating of the orthodontic bracket following electromagnetic fields and negative pressure (V-EMF) used as an anti-aging treatment. METHODS: Two different types of titanium alloy wires, one made of "beta-Titanium" alloy and the other "Ni-Ti" (DW Lingual Systems GmbH-Bad Essen-Germany) were used. The orthodontic wires and brackets mounted on a resin mouth were covered with porcine muscle tissue, then subjected to anti-aging therapy with a Bi-one LifeTouchTherapy medical device (Expo Italia Srl-Florence-Italy) which generates a combination of vacuum and electromagnetic fields (V-EMF) already adopted for antiaging therapy. During administration of the therapy, the orthodontic brackets and porcine tissue were thermally monitored using a Wavetek Materman TMD90 thermal probe (Willtek Communications GmbH-Germany). In total 20 orthodontic mouths were used, 10 with Beta Titanium wires and 10 with Nickel Titanium wires. RESULTS: A temperature increase of about 1°C was recorded in each group. The outcome of the present research shows that the absolute temperatures measured on orthodontic appliances, which, despite having a slightly different curve, both show an increase in temperature of 1.1°C at the end of the session, thus falling well within the safety range of 2°C as specified by the standard CENELEC EN 45502-1. Therefore, V-EMF therapy can be considered safe for the entire dental system and for metal prostheses, which tend to heat up at most as much as biological tissue (+0.9°C/1.1°C vs. 1.1°C/1.1°C). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, anti-aging therapy with V-EMF causes a thermal increase on orthodontic brackets that is not harmful to pulp health.

INTRODUCTION: Neodymium-iron-boron magnets have been suggested as a contemporary method for accelerating the process of orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). A limited number of clinical trials evaluated their effectiveness in accelerating OTM which is desirable for both orthodontists and patients. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a low-intensity static magnetic field (SMF) in accelerating upper canine retraction movement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventeen patients (mean age 20.76 ± 2.9 years) with their orthodontic treatment decision to extract the upper and lower first premolars due to bimaxillary protrusion malocclusion were included in this split-mouth study. Canine retraction was performed using Nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) closed-coil springs (150 g of force on each side). The experimental side received SMF via an auxiliary wire that carried 4-neodymium iron-born magnets with an air gap of 2 mm between the magnets to produce a magnetic field density of 414 mT in the region corresponding to the lateral ligament of the upper canine. To determine the rate of upper canine retraction and upper molar drift, alginate impressions were taken once a month to create plaster casts, which were analyzed digitally via a three-dimensional method. RESULTS: The rate of upper canine retraction was significantly greater (P < 0.05) on the SMF side than that on the control side during the first and second months, with an overall duration (19.16%) that was greater than that on the control side. The peak acceleration occurred during the second month (38.09%). No significant differences in upper molar drift were detected between the experimental and control sides (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: A low-intensity static magnetic field was effective at accelerating upper canine retraction. The difference between the two sides was statistically significant but may not be clinically significant. The SMF did not affect upper molar drift during the upper canine retraction phase. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The trial was retrospectively registered at the ISRCTN registry ( ISRCTN59092624 ) (31/05/2022).

AIM: To evaluate the maxillary incisors and canine's immediate movement tendency using three different power arms (PA) height levels during total arch maxillary distalization supported on infrazygomatic crest (IZC) miniscrews according to finite element analysis (FEA). METHODS: Three finite element models of the maxilla were developed based on CBCT imaging of a teenage male patient presenting a Class II Division 1 malocclusion in the early permanent dentition. Maxillary complex, periodontium, orthodontic accessories, IZC miniscrews and an orthodontic wire were digitally created. The PAs were placed between canines and lateral incisors and projected at 4, 7, and 10 mm height distances. After that, distalization forces were simulated between PA and IZC miniscrews. RESULTS: The anterior teeth deformation produced in the FEA models was assessed according to a Von Mises equivalent. The stress was measured, revealing tendencies of initial maxillary teeth movement. No differences were found between the right and left sides. However, there was a significant difference among models in the under-stress areas, especially the apical and cervical root areas of the maxillary anterior teeth. More significant extrusion and lingual tipping of incisors were observed with the 4 mm power arm compared to the 7 mm and 10 mm ones. The 10 mm power arm did not show any tendency for extrusion of maxillary central incisors but a tendency for buccal tipping and intrusion of lateral incisors. CONCLUSION: The maxillary incisors and canines have different immediate movement tendencies according to the height of the anterior point of the en-masse distalization force application. Based on the PA height increase, a change from lingual to buccal tipping and less extrusion tendency was observed for the incisors, while the lingual tipping and extrusion trend for canines increased.

AIM: The study aims to correlate the frictional forces (FF) of four different types of commercially available ceramic brackets to their surface topography. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two monocrystalline (MC) brackets (CLEAR™, Adanta, Germany; Inspire ICE™, Ormco, USA), one polycrystalline (PC) bracket (Symetri Clear™, Ormco, USA), one clear hybrid esthetic bracket (DISCREET™, Adanta, Germany), and a stainless-steel (SS) bracket (Victory™, 3M Unitek, USA) served as control. Both static friction (SF) and kinetic friction (KF) were recorded during sliding using an Instron universal machine in dry settings. The bracket slot surface topography was evaluated. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a profilometer machine were used for assessment before and after sliding. RESULTS: Frictional forces values during sliding were as follows in descending order; Inspire ICE™, CLEAR™, DISCREET™, Symetri Clear™, and, lastly, Victory™. Also, DISCREET™ scored the highest in surface roughness (Sa) values followed by Symetri Clear™. None of the correlations were statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Frictional forces produced during sliding were not always directly related to surface roughness. Monocrystalline ceramic brackets appeared to have the greatest FF and a low surface roughness. Furthermore, DISCREET™ scored a very low frictional value comparable to metal brackets yet showed the highest surface roughness. Metal brackets exhibited the greatest surface smoothness before sliding and the least SF. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Predicting the FFs produced during sliding mechanics would help the practitioner while choosing the bracket system to be used, and while planning the treatment mechanics, how much force to deliver, and how much tooth movement to expect. OBJECTIVE: One of the most imprortant factors in achieving ideal teeth positions is the precision of the slot dimensions of orthodontic brackets into the archwires are inserted.This study aimed to assess the accuracy of the dimensions of orthodontic bracket slots and molar buccal tube apertures and to compare them with the specifications provided by the manufacturers. METHOD: A total of sixty brackets and ten molar buccal tubes with varying slot heights were examined using a scanning electron microscope from the mesial side. The dimensions and morphology of these bracket slots and buccal tubes apertures were assessed using the AutoCAD Software. A one-sample t-test was conducted to compare the measurements with the values provided by the manufacturer. RESULTS: The findings of the present study indicated that the height of the measured bracket slots and buccal tube apertures dimensions were significantly larger than the actual dimensions and exhibiting divergent walls. On the other hand, the depth of the brackets slots showed significantly smaller values than the actual one. CONCLUSION: A need for careful consideration when selecting a commercially accessible brand for everyday use is essential as certain materials may not meet acceptable standards.

PURPOSE: To investigate the elemental composition, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) retainers versus conventional fixed retainers (FRs). METHODS: Eight different retainer wires were investigated. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was used to determine the elemental composition. Leakage was analysed according to ISO 10271:2020 guidelines. Hardness was tested using the Vickers method with a load of 0.3 kg. The tensile force and tensile strength were evaluated. Multiple comparisons among wires of hardness, tensile force, and strength were conducted using the Welch t-test, with Bonferroni correction. RESULTS: Nickel was present in all wires. The CAD-CAM-FR wire, which contained more nickel than the other wires, had no measurable leakage. The gold-plated wires had the highest total leakage, but did not exceed the ISO standard limit. The hardness of the stainless-steel twisted wires was the highest and that of the CAD-CAM-FR wire was the lowest. The tensile strength of the CAD-CAM-FR wire was significantly lower than that of the other wires and similar to the other twisted-wire retainers. CONCLUSION: The CAD-CAM-FR wire is likely to have high corrosion resistance and flexibility due to its low hardness.

BACKGROUND: Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a polyaromatic semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer with mechanical and lubrication properties favorable for biomedical applications. Despite of its aesthetic appearance, ceramic brackets are unsatisfactory in brittleness and thickness, while PEEK is a potential material for aesthetic orthodontic brackets. OBJECTIVE: To fabricate a novel aesthetic orthodontic bracket and evaluate friction properties of PEEK and stainless steel wires. METHODS: All polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and ceramic samples disks were made into disks (diameter, 5 mm; thickness, 2 mm). The tested surfaces of PEEK were ground with #600, #800 and #1200 SiC papers, followed by polishing with Sof-Lex kit (3M ESPE, USA). The surface roughness was tested using a laser profilometer device (VK-X200, Keyence, Japan). The COFs of the specimens and stainless steel (SS) archwires were tested using a Universal Micro-Tribotester (UMT-3, Bruker, USA). The wear scratches on the materials' surfaces were examined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) (Hitachi SU8010). The elastic modulus and hardness of samples were examined with a nano-indenter (XP, Keysight Technologies, USA). RESULTS: The mean surface roughness of PEEK and Ceramic are 0.320 ± 0.028 µm and 0.343 ± 0.044 µm, respectively. PEEK has a lower Friction coefficient than Ceramic and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P< 0.05). The abrasive wear of Ceramic was the main wear style and was characterized by the observation of chipping fractures, while PEEK surface looked smooth without obvious scale-like desquamations and granular debris, indicating adhesive wear. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of the present study, PEEK shows lower coefficient of friction than ceramic. PEEK has excellent properties such as low friction coefficient, smooth surface and good mechanical properties, and thus meets the requirements for orthodontic brackets. It is considered as a potential bracket material with both low friction and aesthetic performance.

The incidence of oral malocclusion is increasing and is seriously damaging the oral health of human beings. The Kitchon root-controlled auxiliary archwire is an individualized orthodontic arch. It is used clinically for the treatment of tooth-lingual tilt/root-lip tilt phenomenon of the central incisors. However, the bending parameters of the Kitchon root-controlled auxiliary archwire used in different patients are based on the clinical experience of the dentists. Therefore, this orthodontic treatment has a high risk and unpredictability. In this paper, the loading performance and orthodontic process of Kitchon root-controlled auxiliary archwire are analyzed. And the prediction model of support resistance and correction torque are established. The bending parameters of the Kitchon root-controlled auxiliary archwire, as well as the effect of the bending parameters on the support resistance and the correction torque, are all quantified. And the prediction models for the support resistance and the correction torque are calculated separately. The correlation coefficients of calculated data and experimental data are ξT1 > .97 and ξA1 > .96, respectively; the correlation coefficients of simulated data and experimental data are ξT2 > .96 and ξA2 > .96, respectively. The accuracy and reliability of the established prediction models are verified. It provides an effective theoretical guide for dentists to safely and efficiently perform root-controlled rotation orthodontic treatment on patients' central incisors.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to clarify the effect of power arm length combined with additional torque incorporated into the archwire on the controlled movement of the anterior teeth using the finite element method. METHODS: An adult patient requiring medium anchorage after extraction of the maxillary first premolars was selected for this study. The power arms were placed between the lateral incisor and the canine at 3 levels: 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm. A 150 g of retraction force was applied from each height of the anterior hook to the first molar tube, with 0°, 5°, and 10° of applied lingual root torque on the incisors. RESULTS: A 3-mm hook with 10° of applied torque, a 6-mm hook with 5° of applied torque, or a 9-mm hook with no extra torque constituted the best combinations targeted at controlling the inclination of incisors during retraction. Extrusion and distal tipping of the canine were observed. Moreover, mesial tipping and mesiopalatal rotation of the molar were unavoidable. Finally, intercanine and intermolar widths were decreased. CONCLUSIONS: Adding extra torque on the incisors or using high torque brackets is recommended for patients with maxillary first premolar extraction.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate any distortion produced by multibracket fixed orthodontic appliances on digital models obtained from intraoral scans (IOS), considering the presence of both brackets only and brackets/archwire combination. SETTING/SAMPLE: The IOS data of the arches of 20 patients (12 females and 8 males; mean age = 15.55 ± 2.84 years) were acquired using the CS3600 intraoral scanner (Carestream Dental, Atlanta, USA), without any appliances (model A), with vestibular brackets alone (model B) and then with brackets and orthodontic archwire fitted (model C). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were acquired between the months of January and October 2021 at the moment of indirect bonding phase. On each model, five intra-arch linear measurements were obtained (inter-canine, inter-premolar 1 and 2, inter-molar and arch depth), and after digital matching between model A and B (match 1) and A and C (match 2), the linear discrepancies were evaluated at 20 points (10 occlusal and 10 gingivolingual) previous identified on the reference model A. All measurements were performed using Geomagic Control X software (3D Systems, Morrisville, USA), and any dimensional variations and distortions were evaluated by the linear regression analysis and two-sample t-test (P ≤ .05). RESULTS: The results show an almost perfect correlation between both models B and C and the reference model A, both as regards the intra-arch linear measurements and the linear discrepancies found at the 20 identified points. CONCLUSIONS: Multibracket fixed orthodontic appliances do not produce any relevant distortions in digital models obtained via intraoral scanning. Therefore, the removal of archwire is not mandatory before IOS.

Medical guide wires play a crucial role in the process of intravascular interventional therapy. However, it is essential for bare metal guide wires to possess both hydrophilic lubricity and coating durability, avoiding tissue damage caused by friction inside the blood vessel during the interventional procedure. Additionally, it is still a huge challenge for diverse metal materials to bind with polymer coatings easily. Herein, we present a hydrogel coating scheme and its preparation method for various wires under mild conditions for environmental protection purposes. The preparation process involves surface pretreatment, including low-temperature heating and silanization, followed by a two-step dip coating and ultraviolet polymerization. The whole process leads to the formation of an interpenetrating cross-linked hydrogel network from the substrate to the surface section. This study confirms the superhydrophilicity and lubricity of three metal wires with the designed coating, especially reducing the friction significantly by ≥ 95%. The thin coating (average thickness <6.2 µm) demonstrates strong adhesion with various substrates and exhibits resistance to 25 or even 125 cycles of friction, indicating excellent stability and preventing easy detachment. The finally prepared composite nickel-titanium (NiTi) guide wire with stainless steel (SS) and platinum-tungsten (Pt-W) coils (overall diameter of ∼0.36 mm) shows satisfactory performance with a friction of 0.183 N for 25 cycles, meeting the clinical requirements (average friction ≤0.2 N) for interventional operation. These findings highlight the potential of this study in advancing the development of medical devices, particularly in the field of intravascular interventional therapy.

Malocclusion is an oral disease with a high prevalence. The goal of orthodontic treatment is health, aesthetics, function and stability. The transmission straight wire appliance and technique is an innovative orthodontic system with independent intellectual property rights invented by Professor Jiuxiang Lin's team based on decades of clinical experience, which provides a new solution for the non-surgical correction of skeletal malocclusions, especially class Ⅲ malocclusion, and it is also a good carrier for the implementation of the concept of healthy orthodontics. Due to the lack of guidelines, how to implement standardized application of transmission straight wire technique remains a problem to be solved. This technical specification was formed by combining the guidance from Professor Jiuxiang Lin and joint revision by a number of authoritative experts from the Orthodontic Special Committee, Chinese Stomatological Association, with reference to relevant literatures, and combined with abundant clinical experience of many experts. This specification aims to provide reference to standardize the clinical application of transmission straight wire technique, so as to reduce the risk and complications, and finally to improve the clinical application level of this technique.

OBJECTIVE: To compare force degradation of elastomeric chains and NiTi coil springs in vivo and in vitro, and evaluate the effects of pre-stretched and reused elastomeric chains in the oral cavity during the time. METHODS: In the in vitro groups, 4-unit elastomeric chains and NiTi coil springs with an initial force of 200 g were placed in dry air and artificial saliva. The volunteers wore clear retainers which were used to hold the sample of 4-unit chains, pre-stretched 4-unit chains, and NiTi coil springs with the initial force of 200 g in the in vivo groups. After the first 4 weeks, 4-unit specimens were stretched to 200 g again for another 4 weeks in vivo. The force value and the percentage of force degradation were recorded at each measurement time interval in the in vivo and in vitro groups. RESULTS: The force degradation of elastomeric chains was greatest within the initial 4 hours, followed by a more stable phase after 1 week. The average force degradation of 4-unit elastomeric chains after 4 weeks was in vivo (64.8%) > artificial saliva (55.0%) > dry air (46.42%) (P < 0.05). The force degradation of NiTi coil springs in vivo (15.36%) or in artificial saliva (15.8%) was greater than in dry air (7.6%) (P < 0.05). NiTi coil springs presented a gentler force decay than elastomeric chains during the period (P < 0.05). In vivo, the force degradation of pre-stretched and reused elastomeric chains decreased less than the regular style(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The force degradation of the elastomeric chains and NiTi coil springs varied in different environments. NiTi coil springs presented a gentler force decay than elastomeric chains during the period. Orthodontists should consider the force degradation characteristics of orthodontic accessories in clinical practice.

The design of orthodontic arch wires is a prerequisite for orthodontic treatment that determines the subsequent orthodontic effects. Current methods for designing orthodontic arch wires are often based on traditional manual techniques, which suffer from problems such as low accuracy and efficiency. To address these issues, a digital orthodontic arch wire design system has been developed using Unity 3D and C#. This system allows for the interactive adjustment and intelligent optimization of the shape of digital orthodontic arch wires. The developed system includes modules for curve design, contour construction, and collision detection of orthodontic arch wires, which can be customized interactively to meet the personalized needs of patients. In addition, an energy-constrained method is employed to optimize the shape of certain regions of the arch wire, which helps overcome distortion and interference issues caused by unreasonable interaction. The effectiveness of the developed system has been evaluated through experiments on digital design and optimization of orthodontic arch wires. Results demonstrate that the system can achieve accurate and efficient digital design of orthodontic arch wires, effectively reduce distortion, and is expected to improve the orthodontic effect.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the current in vitro study was to evaluate the surface roughness and hardness of three brands of as-received esthetic coated NiTi archwires and compare them with the same parameters after immersion in artificial saliva. METHODS: Three groups of 0.016 × 0.022 inch epoxy-coated NiTi orthodontic wires [Tooth tone coated NiTi (Ortho Technology, West Columbia, USA), EverWhite NiTi (American Orthodontics, Wisconsin, USA) and Nitanium Super Elastic Tooth Tone Plastic coated (Ortho Organizers, San Marcos, CA, USA)] were compared. Each group was subdivided into five as-received archwire specimens and five archwire specimens retrieved following immersion in artificial saliva for 28 days. Atomic force microscopy was used for analysis of average surface roughness (Sa). Hardness testing was performed using Digital Vickers hardness tester. ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for comparing the wire groups. RESULTS: The ranking of (Sa) values was as follows: Nitanium Ortho Organizers > Everwhite American Orthodontics > Tooth tone Ortho Technology (P > 0.05). Nitanium Ortho Organizers archwires showed significantly greater (Sa) than both other groups following immersion in saliva (P < 0.001). The coating hardness of as-received and post-immersion archwires from Tooth tone Ortho Technology was significantly lower than the other groups (P < 0.001). For all the three types of archwires, the mean hardness of immersed wires was significantly lower than that of the as-received archwires (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Esthetic coated archwires have shown unpleasant surface changes following exposure to artificial saliva. These surface changes are affected by physical characteristics such as surface roughness and hardness of the coating.

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to determine and compare the moment-to-force (Mc/F) ratio and the type of tooth movement generated in the anterior and posterior segments in orthodontic space closure with stainless steel and titanium-molybdenum alloy loop archwires. METHODS: Three-dimensional model of the maxilla from which the first premolar was extracted, 18 × 25-mil slot stainless steel brackets, and 16 × 22-mil stainless steel and ß titanium-molybdenum alloy (TMA) closing loop archwires with anterior gable bend of 15° and posterior gable bend of 25° were constructed. The archwires were engaged in the brackets, and 1-mm activations were carried out, which were repeated 5 times. The anterior and posterior segment Mc/F ratio and the type of tooth movement generated by the 2 wires were compared. RESULTS: It was found that the Mc/F ratio for the anterior segment was approximately 5 mm, and for posterior teeth was approximately 10 mm for both stainless steel and TMA closing loop archwire. The anterior teeth exhibited controlled tipping, whereas the posterior teeth showed bodily tooth movement, which was in accordance with the Mc/F ratio that was obtained. CONCLUSIONS: The Mc/F ratio and the type of tooth movement exhibited by stainless steel and TMA closing loop archwires were similar in both anterior and posterior segments.

BACKGROUND: To determine the effect of silver and silver chitosan nanocoatings on monocrystalline ceramic, polycrystalline ceramic, and metallic brackets regarding friction, roughness, and antibacterial effect against Streptococcus mutans. METHODS: A total of 99 upper right premolar brackets with a 0.022 × 0.025 -inch slot were divided into three groups, each 33 according to coating material; the non-coated group, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and silver chitosan nanoparticles (Ag-CsNPs) groups. Each group was equally subdivided into the following three subgroups regarding bracket materials: monocrystalline ceramic, polycrystalline ceramic, and metallic brackets. A universal testing machine determined static friction on a custom-made acrylic jig. Then a profilometer machine was used to collect roughness data, and finally, the anti-cariogenic effect was measured with the disc diffusion technique's "minimum zone of inhibition" against Streptococcus mutans. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare data between groups and subgroups, followed by the Bonferroni test for multiple pair-wise comparisons. RESULTS: The nanocoating effect on ceramic brackets' static friction was non-significant. The AgNPs and Ag-CsNPs coated metallic group revealed a significant increase in static friction-a significant effect of the nanocoating in the surface roughness of monocrystalline and polycrystalline ceramic brackets. A significant favorable effect of AgNPs and Ag-CsNPs against Streptococcus mutans was observed. CONCLUSIONS: AgNPs and Ag-CsNPs coats are unsuitable for decreasing friction in metallic brackets or improving roughness in polycrystalline ceramic brackets. Nano coating can improve roughness in monocrystalline ceramic brackets. Coating brackets with AgNPs and Ag-CsNPs has a tremendous antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans, a substantial factor in the incidence of dental caries.

OBJECTIVES: A TiNb alloy wire (GUMMETAL® [GM], Toyota Central R&D Labs, Inc., Nagakute, Japan) was recently developed with unique properties for orthodontic applications. This pilot split-mouth randomized controlled trial compared maxillary canine retraction during space closure using sliding mechanics on GM vs. stainless steel (SS) archwires. METHODS: Subjects who met the inclusion criteria were treated with fixed appliances and maxillary first-premolar extractions between September 2020 and March 2022. After leveling and aligning, maxillary archwires, fabricated by crimping together segments of 0.016×0.022" GM and SS archwires, were placed and canine retraction initiated using nickel-titanium coil springs. Digital models of the maxillary arch were superimposed at 0, 4, 8 and 12 weeks and the amount of canine movement (mm), rate of movement (mm/month), and 3-dimensional changes (rotational, vertical extrusion, tip) were measured and compared statistically. RESULTS: Of the 12 subjects recruited, only six completed the study with a median age of 15.8 years (12.0-17.4 years). At 12 weeks, the median canine retraction was 3.41mm (IQR: 2.10, 4.76) with GM versus 3.71mm (IQR: 1.62, 6.45) with SS. The retraction rate was 1.14mm/month (IQR: 0.69, 1.59) with GM, versus 1.24mm/month (IQR: 0.54, 2.15) with SS. The median rotational, vertical and tip changes of the canine were 7.90̊, 0.59mm and 6.15̊ with GM, and 7.25̊, 0.29mm and 2.05̊ with SS. Intergroup differences with all measurements were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: No significant differences were found between GM and SS during maxillary canine retraction. GM demonstrated clinical potential for space closure mechanics, however, future larger studies are needed.
